In May I played a key role in delivering GB Energy - fulfilling my pledge to help create a fully publicly-owned energy company to power our communities securely well into the future.

In April, I played a key role in Parliament securing emergency protections for Scunthorpe’s steelworks, safeguarding jobs and national supply chains. I began legislative work on the Planning and Infrastructure Bill Committee and spoke on critical local and national issues—from support for veterans and sports teams to homelessness and transport. Labour’s Plan for Change continued delivering real results, including minimum wage increases, pension boosts, and sustained reductions in NHS waiting lists.

April brought exciting developments for Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme. We welcomed £30 million in government funding to support the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, and I held a public meeting with Northern Powergrid to address repeated outages. I also advanced an ambitious plan to convert disused buildings into high-quality social housing and engaged directly with residents across multiple communities in the region.
