April 2026 – In Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme

April has been a month of real progress both locally and nationally. From pushing forward key campaigns here in Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme, to voting on major national changes that will make a difference to working people, there’s a lot to update you on.

Out and about in the constituency

Transport has been a major focus this month. I met with senior leaders at Northern Rail to make the case for restoring hourly train services at Hatfield & Stainforth, Thorne South, Crowle and Althorpe. I presented a detailed 20-page proposal, backed by over 1,000 local residents, and I’m pleased it is now being assessed. There is still work to do, but this campaign is moving forward.

I also launched a new campaign to improve bus services across the Isle of Axholme, speaking directly with residents and gathering views to shape a report that will be shared with operators and decision-makers. Reliable, accessible transport is key to reconnecting our communities, and I’m determined to make progress here.

In Rossington, I completed my Pride in Place engagement sessions, hearing from residents about how they want to see investment used locally. The next step is bringing this together into a Residents’ Report to help guide future decisions and ensure funding reflects what local people actually want.

It was also fantastic to support Doncaster’s first Audiology Action Day, helping residents access hearing support, advice and repairs, while continuing to push for long-term improvements to local services.

In Parliament

In Westminster, I raised the future of Doncaster Sheffield Airport directly with the Prime Minister at PMQs, reinforcing the importance of reopening for jobs, investment and growth in our area. I will continue working with colleagues and local partners to make sure this is delivered.

I’ve also been working to open up aviation careers for local young people, leading a campaign with industry partners to push for fair access to funding for pilot training. When the airport reopens, I want those opportunities to be available to everyone, not just those who can afford them.

Improving access to healthcare closer to home has also been a priority. I met with the National Pharmacy Association to look at how we can expand access to pharmacy services, helping residents get advice and treatment more easily while easing pressure on GP services. It was one of my five pledges to improve our local NHS and I am doing all I can to fulfil this.

I also raised concerns with Ministers about unfair estate charges, pushing for action to ensure homeowners are treated fairly and transparently.

Alongside this, there have been important national changes this month. The Government has introduced stronger workers’ rights, scrapped the two-child benefit limit, lifting over two-thousand children out of poverty in our constituency, and delivered a £575 increase to the state pension, supporting 18,000 local pensioners. These are significant steps towards a fairer and more secure country.

Casework highlights

My team and I resolved 486 cases this month, supporting residents across a wide range of issues.

A few examples include:

  • Reporting speeding concerns on Hatfield Broadway, with police now taking action

  • Securing a £110 refund on a parking fine after a resident was incorrectly charged during an appeal process

  • Supporting a resident forced to leave her home due to harassment, helping her secure a new property and access grants and support during a very difficult time

This work often happens behind the scenes, but it can make a real difference when people need support most.
